The workshop has three tracks of study:

Young Artist Program:  For more advanced students and professionals.  Singers admitted to this program will sing roles in the final production of Così fan tutte.  This program will begin one week earlier for coaching. Dates: July 22-August 12

Studio Program:  For all singers looking to broaden their skills and prepare for auditions in a nurturing, yet intensive environment.  Participants will perform in a program of opera scenes and some will understudy roles in Così fan tutte.  Dates: July 29-August 12

Musical Theater Program:  This is a special program designed for the developing singer-actor.  Students will have intensive acting classes and voice lessons and will perform in an evening of Musical Theater scenes and a Cabaret Performance.  Dates: July 29-August 12

**Opera/Musical Theater COMBO Track: Select students will be invited to participate in both opera and musical theater scenes programs.  OBVI 2012 is thrilled to include a specially designed evening of Opera and Musical theater scenes that are all based on the same stories.  Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet meets Bernstein’s West Side Story!

APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 1, 2012  You will be notified of acceptance by May 1, 2012.

Live Auditions by appointment in New York City.  Out of town applicants may audition by DVD/MP3/YouTube.  We reserve the right to request additional electronic samples if the quality is not acceptable.

Repertoire:  2 selections appropriate for the course of study you wish to audition for. If you are auditioning for Così fan tutte, you are encouraged to sing something from the opera or an aria in English or Italian.  Please include your resume and headshot.

Young Artist Tuition: $1,800
Studio Artist Tuition: $ 1,400
Musical Theater Tuition: $1,400

Scholarships are available but limited. 
Please indicate need for assistance in your application.
Deposit of $500 is due by May 1, 2012 and is non-refundable.
The full tuition must be paid by the first day of classes.

HOUSING INFORMATION
Housing for the program is $150/week including insurance and linen service. Food is available on campus for about $130/week. (Breakfast: $5.10; Lunch: $6.10; Dinner: $7.10)

CANCELLATIONS
Once accepted, to cancel your registration, please contact us at:
Operabreve@gmail.com.  If cancelations are not made prior to May 1, 2012, the full registration fee is incurred.  Stop payment of a check does not constitute a formal cancellation.  There is a return check fee of $30.00  for all stop payments and returned checks. 

 

COLLABORATIVE PIANO INTERNSHIP
Pianists will accompany rehearsals and lessons.  This is a great way to build repertoire and develop a performing and teaching resume!  Some interns may be involved in the scenes performances.  There is no tuition for this program.

 

TECHNICAL and DIRECTING INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
Aspiring stage directors, designers and stage managers are encouraged to apply.  There is no tuition for this program.  The interns with participate in the workshop, assist the directors and coaches, and have possible directing responsibilities supervised by workshop staff.  Lighting designers will assist in the design of all performances.
